Duddell: Catch

Catch for trumpet and marimba is the fifth piece I’ve written for Colin Currie over a collaborative period which started when Parallel Lines for percussion and piano was commissioned by the BBC in 1999. When Håkan Hardenberger and Colin formed their trumpet and percussion duo, I noticed a gap in their repertoire for a lively, up-tempo work, which I hope my duo for this unusual combination fills.Catch is about five minutes long in three sections. Jagged rhythmic phrases juxtaposed with flowing legato shapes characterise the beginning and end, framing a more lyrical middle section.Joe Duddell (2009)
