Funeral March of a Marionete is geschreven in 1872 als onderdeel van de Charles Gounod’s Suite Burlesque voor piano. Deze suite was bedoeld als parodie op Henry Chorley, een muziek-criticus. Toen het stuk af was behield Gounod alleen deze treurmars. Deze mars is talloze keren opgenomen waarvan een van de eerste door John Phillip Sousa. Het werk is waarschijnlijk het meest bekend geworden als themamuziek bij het televisieprogramma Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
