Born in Serbia in 1929, Ivan Markovitch pursued his musical education at the Serbian National Academy of Music. His career has seen him compose for a variety of instruments, as well as produce significant teaching materials, Music Theory (IM2) being no exception.

Markovitch's study book for beginner vocalists addresses canons, duets, trios, intonation exercises, theory, rhythm and contains a helpful glossary of terms and performance directions, amongst other aspects.
